5 Seconds of Summer (or 5SOS as their fans affectionately call them) can probably credit themselves with being one of the first bands on the planet to achieve a meteoric rise to fame just using the power of social media. In 2011, three gentleman named Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford and Callum Hood, who were college friends, all got together and started making music to post on Youtube. The Australian trio started with covers, which they then went on to upload to Hemmings youtube channel. Their cover of Chris Brown 'Next to you' received over 600,000 hits and in 2011 they were joined by Asthon Irwin and their current line up was complete. Gaining a following on social media also meant that they got noticed by the right people, and they soon signed up to a lucrative deal with Sony ATP publishing. Still using the powers of social media (Twitter and Facebook) they managed to attract attention from Liam Tomlinson and Nial Horan of One Direction, both of whom championed their music and gave them a helping hand by tweeting out links to their music to millions of followers. This helped their first EP 'Unplugged' get them namy fans who would go on to help them when they released their debut album. 'Unplugged' became number 3 on the iTunes chart. After this, the 'Somewhere New' EP followed in 2012, and their first single 'Out of my Limit' released in November 2012 got over 100,000 views within 24 hours of being u[loaded to Youtube. In February 2013, the band supported One Direction on their 'Take Me Home' tour. The band released singles from their debut album '5 Seconds of Summer' which were all commercial successes. The band finally got to headline their own tour, the 'Rock Out With Your Socks Out' tour, starting in May 2015. The 5 seconds of Summer tour 2016 sees them travel around their native Australia, America and Europe, with 5 Seconds of Summer Tickets available now!.
